High Tech Lighting Upgrades for Home, Automobile, and Office
Anyone still relying on incandescent bulbs for lighting is using technology that is generations outdated despite the prolific, widespread use of incandescent lamps in the home, office, and even in automobiles. Unless you’re reliant on incandescent light types for use in film and video shooting (thanks to the soft, warm glow emitted by these bulbs), there’s really no reason to utilize these old lighting units any longer. An incandescent lamp expends 90% of the energy it receives converting said energy into heat, an extremely wasteful process that requires a substantial amount of power just for a reasonable light intensity. There are many more efficient and effective lighting sources available today, so if you want to use some high tech lighting at work, home, or while driving, here are some upgrades to consider.
Home
In many cases, you’re likely to spend 5x as much on energy expenses or more using incandescent bulbs instead of LEDs. LED stands for light emitting diodes, and this lighting technology is among the most efficient on the market. LED lamps can be altered in size and shape depending on the needs of your home, something that even efficient fluorescent lights can’t claim to do. So whether you need miniature LEDs to light up your kitchen pantry or large LED lighting arrays to provide crisp, clear light in your home’s living room, you’ll get equally efficient lights that will sharply cut the lighting portion of your energy bills at home. Unfortunately, these lights are more expensive at initial purchase, but if you plan to stay in the same place for the next 5-10 years, you’ll start to see the benefits of this more efficient lights (luckily, LEDs last many multiples the time span that conventional lights last).
Automobile
Your car’s stock headlights are probably not up to par in terms of effectiveness or efficiency either. Say you drive an Acura Integra that’s still equipped with OEM halogens. While they provide sufficient light, halogens don’t have great records in terms of brightness or longevity. By using Integra HID kits, you can install headlights in your Integra that are up to 3x brighter and 10x longer lasting than halogens. Not only that, but HID headlights emit light that appears more natural to the eyes, resulting in less eye strain, and will reflect off moving objects more easily than halogen-based light. So with Integra HID kits, you wouldn’t need to worry about turning on your vehicle’s brights nearly as often just to see more than a few feet ahead.
Office
Unlike your home, where you’d want to cut your energy bills but still have a very cozy, pleasant light source, the office is all about efficiency and profit. LEDs may require too much overhead, so many offices looking for high tech lighting will turn to fluorescents. While the light may be a little harsh, fluorescent lamps are cheap, highly energy efficient compared to incandescent bulbs, and are quite long-lived. Though they must be purchased in long tube shapes, that usually isn’t an issue in rectangular office layouts, making this the cheap, efficient light type to go with at work.
